My research interests lie primarily in the use of phylogenetic trees to address questions of morphological evolution and biodiversity of flowering plants (angiosperms). I have experience with phylogenetic reconstruction, molecular dating, diversification rates, floral and pollen morphology, paleobotany, and systematics and taxonomy, with specific expertise on Magnoliales and Proteaceae. In addition, I have particular skills in database development, which I use to assemble large matrices of morphological traits. My main goal now is to integrate these different approaches to better understand the evolution of floral diversity at the scale of angiosperms as a whole.

My research group, entitled Diversification of angiosperms (DIV), currently includes two members:

  • Elisabeth Reyes (PhD student, 2013-2016): floral key innovations in angiosperms (co-supervised with Sophie Nadot)
  • Qian Zhang (PhD student, 2015-2019): breeding system evolution in Moraceae

I teach phylogenetics and systematic botany (both in the classroom and the field), at the undergraduate and graduate levels (currently SV134 Biodiversity / L1; Biol207 Field course in Auvergne / L2; Licence Professionnelle in Environmental management of urban plant landscapes / L3; BIVE Plant biodiversity / M1).

I am also the coordinator of the pedagogical committee of the MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) Botanique : Apprendre à connaître les plantes – initiation, produced by Tela Botanica. This MOOC targeted to the broadest public is currently being broadcasted to >30,000 registered participants.
